The biggest event in our community is undoubtedly the Cassandra Summit, which took place this year in September at the San Jose’s Convention Center.
The Last Pickle team was there of course and we gave no less than 17 talks during this edition, covering a wide range of topics from introduction to advanced operations.

Nate and I are excited to be speaking about Apache Cassandra in three cities across Europe this month.

In March was able to speak at two community meetups in the San Francisco area.

Nate and I got to speak at the DataStax Cassandra Day Atlanta yesterday. It was great to see so many people (a few hundred by my count) interested in Cassandra outside of San Francisco.

While in Sydney I got the opportunity to catch up with some Australian Cassandra users at the Sydney Cassandra Meetup. Adoption down under has been a bit behind the ball. That seems to be changing with the presence of DataStax and InstaClustr, and a catching on of the global trend in finances and the top-end of businesses.

I finally got a chance last night to make it back to Austin’s Cassandra Meetup group and present a newer version of my Hardening Cassandra talk. I really like going to this group when I can, because we get a wide variety of skill sets and backgrounds. Austin is just eclectic like that!

Last night, I spoke at Seattle Area Cassandra Meetup delivering the latest version of my securing cassandra talk. Unfortunately, giving this talk reminds of the evangelizing I did in the early days of Apache Cassandra. System security topics, much like explaining “distributed systems” to the average Java developer back in 2010, tend to give most people glazed expressions.

The whole TLP team had a great week at the Cassandra Summit in Santa Clara last week. Between us we have attended every Cassandra conference in the world, and this was by far the biggest and most inspiring.

Last week I had the pleasure of speaking at O’Reilly’s OSCON conference in Portland. This was my first year at OSCON, and I had a great time.

Recently, we got invited to speak at StampedeCon, a “Big Data conference series” hosted at Washington University in St. Louis. It had been a while since I’d presented, but I was really looking forward to this as it brought me back to one of the things I like to do most which is evangelize Apache Cassandra to new users.
